The year is looking very, very promising indeed, gaming wise. But, of course, we're not nearly as excited about some of the games that are going to arrive, as much as we are excited for the fact that Blizzard may finally release Diablo III this year.
Seriously, I've been waiting for that game nearly 10 years and I hope they made a worthy successor. Yeah sure, it's going to be a standard hack'n'slash RPG. Then again, 'standard' isn't a fair observation, now is it. After all if Blizzard is known for anything, it's for making terrific games.
Oh and just thought I might mention this as well - I am getting a bit sick of World of Warcraft.
Thank you.
Despite all my sincerest efforts I still have low tolerance when it comes to Japanese role-playing games. Why? Well, for starters, maybe it's those unnecessarily lengthy -- and often completely pointless -- cinematics. It sometimes takes forever to get to actual gameplay and then when the game finally starts you have to endure all those insanely bright colors and suspiciously girly-looking male protagonists.
To put it simply, I'm more of a Western style RPG kind of person - you know, characters that are actually grown-ups, stories and quests that make sense... that sort of thing.
Granted, not all Western RPGs are perfect. And I there are exceptions to the rule when we're talking about JRPGs. Nonetheless, I've made my choice.
So, the latest thing everybody keeps talking about is this Risen thing - the game I mean. Sure, it may not seem like a familiar name to all gamers over in the States, but in Germany and in Europe plenty of people are playing it even as we speak. Not only that; they also say it's pretty good.
Mind you, I got a chance to play through a good portion of the game and let me tell you, it's mediocre at best. Also, some say it's similar to Gothic. Well, it's not just similar to Gothic... it IS fucking Gothic. Everything's the same from AI routines to the gameplay mechanics. The story feels weak, albeit at least they got a decent actors for the voiceovers.
What does all this have to do with gaming webcomics? Hm, nothing. At least it has to do with gaming and there's not a lot to play right now... so give me a break.
