A lot of people around me like video games. They've liked them for a long time. Recently though, plenty of these people started to complain how the games industry has taken a turn for the worse and how games are now geared towards a massive audience, which, subsequently ruins the experience for veteran gamers - because veteran gamers are always expecting something new and something more challenging.
The industry today is governed by sales and wise business decisions. Not by creativity or innovation. Yeah, sure. We all know this. And the odd thing is, few of us... very few of us are actually doing something about it. Well, you know, there are actually a lot of people out there who are actively trying or at least spreading the word that us hardcore gamers aren't exactly pleased with some of the titles that publishers have been dishing out for the past year or so. I'm talking about the cloning of FPS games and 3rd-person shooters, turning survival horror games into pure action shooters and so on.
This is the probably a natural course the industry must take in order to survive and yet it's still risky, 'cause in the process we might in fact lose some of the genres we love most (survival horror being a great example).
In relation to this, I think 'Extra Credits' made a few excellent points, check 'em out once in a while.
